Caltrain rail service connects San Mateo to cities from San Francisco to San Jose. With express and local service, Caltrain is a comfortable, stress-free alternative to driving. Caltrain stops at three stations in San Mateo: Downtown, Hayward Park and Hillsdale. Hillsdale Station serves as a stop for “Baby Bullet” express trains for faster travel times. Caltrain stations also provide easy connections to other Connect San Mateo mobility options to help you reach your destination, including shuttles, Zipcar, Bay Bikes and SamTrans bus service.
For frequent riders, Caltrain offers a monthly pass on Clipper, the regional transit payment card. Caltrain monthly passes are valid for unlimited weekday trips between the zones you designate in the calendar month for which they are issued. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, the monthly pass is good for unlimited trips between all zones. For occasional riders, Caltrain offers 8-ride tickets on Clipper. Caltrain also provides discounts for youth, seniors and disabled passengers.
